Just wanted to share this information about the Riedenschild brand with everyone.
From the introduction of the brand in 2003 with 2 part-time watchmakers, and only 2500 watches sold the first year, Riedenschild has managed to become an established brand throughout the world. For this small hand-assembled watch company to see such tremendous growth in just the last two years, it has been a task to keep up with demand.
Today, Riedenschild employs over 20 people including its North American headquarters in New York City.
This dramatic growth was due in large part to James Newell, Director of International Operations for Riedenschild. From his start in 2006, Mr. Newell took the Riedenschild brand to watch shows in Prague and the Inhorgenta in Munich, in which the brand began gaining favor amongst watch enthusiasts because of the ability to produce a fine quality watch not usually seen at this price point.
Riedenschild has also achieved product placement in Movies, has a special edition watch by Thomas Anders who also stars in an action tv program called “Cobra 11â€, and is a sponsor of Porsche Racing in Germany.
To gain a foothold in the US market, Mr. Newell established a New York City office in February 2007 to penetrate the North American market. The yearly sales quota was achieved in 3 months, and has increased every month since it’s opening.
That is not to say that there have not been some bumps in the road for Riedenschild along the way. With such a tremendous growth in such a short time period, there still remain some issues to deal with. The company website needs updating, the dealer network just received real-time stock access, the training of newly hired watchmakers, and QC and Logistics personnel have been a challenge.
With the entry into the Chinese market, Riedenschild has again seen rapid growth. And with a new product launch in October of 2007, the company’s growth has far surpassed anyone’s expectations.
Combine all the hurdles of this rapid growth with the company’s announcement of its in-house movement manufacturing project named GEMatic, and you certainly have one very busy little company destined to carve out its place in watchmaking history.
